Lanterns
2018 - Present Lanterns originated as Intention Bowls which are experimental tests of clay, fragility, translucency, surface and light. Each lantern is made with translucent porcelain, decorated and painted by hand with underglazes, stains and sometimes glazes, fired at cone 6 (2232*F). Cracks and warping are encouraged to further illustrate the delicacy of the porcelain as well as its translucency. Several images above reflect both indoor lighting following an example of the same lantern being illuminated by a tea light without any indoor lighting. In 2020, after creating the lanterns as singular, stationary objects, I am now creating them into groups as installations, suspending them from the wall or ceiling within an environment. This next step of adding the laws of gravity to the visual metaphor for this body of work has been exciting and I’m just getting started. Domestic Identity
2014 - Present
Illusions. Found my niche, found my(self). Expansion. Incorporating domestic space.
In 2013, after graduating from ASU, my work underwent a drastic change in material, design and firing. These albums illustrate the growth of my work since then.
In 2015 I began incorporating Props to further illustrate the complex context of my work when documenting and photographing each piece. This context, which I refer to as Domestic Identity, is further explained in my Artist Statement. I invite you to read it by selecting the ABOUT tab above in the Main Menu.
Each piece is made of stoneware or porcelain, inlayed with black oxide stain, decorated with underglazes and ash glazes, sealed with a clear glaze, and fired to cone 6 (2232*F) oxidation.
